The Learning Continuum was the culmination of the ENVISION Student Program and is one of many creative partnerships that NBRS+PARTNERS has realised. In upholding the architecture firm’s vision to create life-changing environments, the student partnership reinforces the importance of multiple perspectives and collaboration in the design process.
In an innovative collaboration NBRS+PARTNERS engaged with 3 students of Architecture to dream a little, and to create a 21st Century student’s response to learning. The result is an imaginative, thoughtful representation of a learning environment without barriers, a place with seamless technology, a world where learning “just is”.
“The 2025 Learning Continuum is a plea from all students for a freedom
for learning that holds students at the centre.” Professor Reid
Having undertaken extensive research as well as drawing on recent educational experiences, the students proposed five progressive spatial design solutions built around an active core: a studio, project and breakout spaces, social and outdoor spaces that support emergent learning in schools.
Andrew Duffin, a Principal of NBRS+PARNERS quoted that the core of our collaborative discovery was to see learning as a part of the continuum of life... in other words the Learning Continuum is really the Living Continuum. The desire was to create a place where the way we learn is as seamless and as natural as the way we live.
NBRS+PARTNERS seek to be at the coal face of that discovery and integration. The Practice perceives the importance of the dialogue with educationalists and students and is driven to create life changing environments through that dialogue. The student intern program came about through a desire to establish a conversation between our office, the profession, and with the future of architecture and in this case to steer our thoughts to a meaningful discovery of where education may go.
